GBIS747 - Research, Learn, and Teach

This Week (Week 3), there is no Discussion. Instead, you will use time this week to prepare for what you will post in the Week 4 Discussions.

There is a wealth of material available on Enterprise software. Your job this week is to select some of this material, learn it, and then present it in the Week 4 Discussion. Your Week 4 Discussion Posting should be designed to explain what you have learned to the rest of the class.

STEP 1: . Select a topic. I would like us to all choose different topics and that's why I am asking you to post your topic in the Discussion area (STEP 2). However, this may not be possible so this is negotiable (STEP 4).

• Use your personal interests. For example, some of you are interested in Human Resources, others are interested in Finance. Your interest might be more technical than functional.
• Pick a component in an area that matches your interest. (Finance, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Netweaver).
• Further limit you search to a subset of your chosen component (Finance - General Ledger, Human Resources - Learning/Education, Human Resources Recruiting, Netweaver Enterprise Portal, Installing SAP on an IBM Mainframe)
• The references at the end of the document can help

STEP 2: Post your topic in the Week 3 Discussion area so everyone else knows what it will be. (You might want to do part of STEP 3 first).

STEP 3: Search the web and/or the recommended sites below. Locate at least some of the material you will read and learn. (Some material could be a too low a level to make a good presentation so you may need to spend time reading and rejecting material.)

STEP 4: Email your topic and references to me to allow me to comment on your choice and material.

STEP 5: Continue looking for more material.

STEP 6: Prepare your discussion that you will post in Week 4. Your goal is to interest your classmates in your topic

• Explain the purpose and major functions of the component subset you selected
• Explain how the business would benefit from this software
• Select one interesting "extra" detail and share it with the class. (This can be something that just interests you about the software or operating environment that you normally wouldn't include in a presentation)
• Your presentation should be the length that you classmates would enjoy. (Not too long with too much detail but not so short that major information is omitted.

STEP 7 (Week 4): Post your discussion in Week 4 as early in the week as possible so your classmates have time to read your work.

STEP 8 (Week 4): Read as many Discussions you can and comment or ask questions on at least two of them.

STEP 9 (Week 4): Answer any questions addressed to you.

If you go to this site at sapebook.blogspot.com, type "sap tutorials" in to the search box in the upper left of the window and then click "search blog". There may be other terms you want to use to search this site.

http://help.sap.com - There is useful material on the sap help site although some cannot be accessed by non-customers (like us). Here are some examples of what you can find on this site.
